WHAT IS HackFake?

HackFake Hackathon is a 36-hour collaborative event where hackers from different stacks will come together to build a minimum viable tool to aid journalists in newsrooms sift through misinformation and researchers study the risks and improve upon the viability of these solutions. The tool will not be an absolute solution, and further human verification will be called for. This hackathon is not a competition. Together we plan and build as much as possible parts of the above projects in 36 hours.

What Sets HackFake Apart?

Team Formation

Social Experiment

HackFake is a social experiment where we are going to analyse if developing tech solutions can combat fake news in local languages. If your models and inputs turn out to be feasible, then yes, going forward, it can become a possible technology utilised by media and other relevant domains to deal with fake news.

Collaborative Spirit

Multiple teams with different skills work together to create a collaborative, community-driven effort. Unlike traditional hackathons, here, multiple teams will be working on creating machine learning models and the common teams, one each for Frontend, Backend, and UI/UX will be working with these multiple models to create plug-ins or web applications.

Community Impact

HackFake aims to reduce digital falsehoods, making a lasting impact on society. It is also an educational initiative wherein participants can learn and grow with workshops, expert talks, and media documentation.
